Gerald Ford

Gerald Rudolph Ford was an American politician who is best known for serving as the 38th President of the United States from August 1974 until January 1977. He previously served as Vice President under Richard Nixon and is remembered for his decision to pardon Nixon after the Watergate scandal.

Personal and Family Life

Gerald Ford was born on July 14, 1913, in Omaha, Nebraska, as Leslie Lynch King Jr. He later adopted the name Gerald R. Ford Jr. when his mother remarried. Ford married Elizabeth (“Betty”) Warren on October 15, 1948, and they had four children together: Michael, John, Steven, and Susan. He grew up in a close-knit family and experienced a typical childhood filled with sports and academics.

Early Life and Education

Ford attended the University of Michigan, where he was a star football player and graduated with a degree in economics and political science. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II before returning to Michigan to practice law. His political career began in 1948 when he was elected to represent Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served for 25 years.

Death and Legacy

Gerald Ford passed away on December 26, 2006, at the age of 93, making him the longest-living U.S. President in history. He was buried at his presidential museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ford is remembered for his integrity and efforts to heal the nation during a time of political turmoil following the Watergate scandal.
