Gerald Kay Souper was an American actor best known for his roles in Saint Joan, The Dreyfus Case, and For the Term of His Natural Life.
Personal and Family Life
Born on November 29, 1871, in Shanghai, China, Gerald was the son of Edward Bennison Souper, an Australian businessman. He spent much of his early life in Perth, Western Australia, before moving to the UK to pursue a career in stage acting. There, he married Florence Gretton, an actress from Birmingham, and together they had two daughters. The family eventually settled in Sydney, Australia, in 1910, where they became involved in the local theatre scene.
Career
Gerald Souper toured numerous theatre companies, performing across Australia, the UK, and North America. His work continued during both World Wars, where he contributed to fundraising efforts through concert parties and was actively involved with the Australian Actors Union. His commitment to the arts and community was evident throughout his career.
Death and Legacy
After the death of his wife Florence in 1946, Gerald moved to Kent, England, to stay with his recently widowed daughter. Sadly, he passed away on January 2, 1947, in Kent. His legacy as a dedicated actor and family man lives on through his contributions to theatre and film.
