Born Victor-Hégésippe Légitimus on August 22, 1930, in Paris, France, he was the son of Darling Légitimus and journalist Étienne Légitimus. He honored his grandfather, Hégésippe Jean Légitimus, the first black member of the French Assemblée nationale in the 3rd Republic, by receiving his first name. Gésip was married to Noéma Thomassine from 1960 until his death and they had seven children together.

Career

Gésip Légitimus was not only an actor but also a film producer and animator. He produced and hosted ‘Pulsations,’ an Afro music show on French public TV, starting from 1967. His contributions to film and television made him a notable figure in the entertainment industry.
