Helen Vita

Helen Vita was a German-American actor best known for her roles in “Cabaret” (1972), “Die Feuerzangenbowle” (1970), and “Satan’s Brew” (1976).

Personal and Family Life

Helen Vita was born on August 7, 1928, in Hohenschwangau, Germany. She was married to Walter Baumgartner from July 1, 1956, until his death on October 3, 1997, and they had two sons together. After her family had to leave Germany in 1939, they moved to Switzerland, where her parents, a concertmaster and a cellist, nurtured her artistic talent.

Career

She studied acting at the Conservatoire de Genève before making her stage debut in Paris in 1946. Helen became one of Germany’s most beloved cabaret artists and chanson singers, performing mainly with pianist Paul Klein until his passing in 1989. In the 1990s, she toured with fellow entertainers Evelyn Künneke and Brigitte Mira in the successful stage show “Drei alte Schachteln” (Three Old Bags).

Death and Legacy

Helen Vita passed away on February 16, 2001, in Berlin, Germany, after a battle with cancer. She is remembered for her contributions to theater and film, as well as her vibrant performances that left a lasting impact on German cabaret culture.
