Helena Carroll

Helena Carroll was an American actress best known for her roles in The Jerk, The Dead, and Rocky V. She was born on November 13, 1928, in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, and passed away on March 31, 2013, in Marina del Rey, California, USA.

Personal and Family Life

Helena was the youngest of three daughters in her family, born to Irish playwright Paul Vincent Carroll and clothing designer Helena Reilly. Her sisters included Theresa Perez, a musician and producer, and Kathleen Carroll, a journalist. Helena also had a half-brother named Brian Carroll, who lives in London. She was an aunt to Helena Perez Reilly and a great-aunt to Paul Vincent Reilly.

Career

Trained at the Central School in London, which later became the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts, Helena moved to the U.S. in 1948. In New York, she co-founded the Irish Players, a repertory company that showcased Irish playwrights during the 1950s and 60s. She made her Broadway debut in “Separate Tables” in 1956 and continued to perform in London, Dublin, and New York throughout her career.

Death and Legacy

Helena Carroll died of heart failure on March 31, 2013, in Marina del Rey, California. Her career spanned several decades, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances in both film and television. She remains remembered for her contributions to the arts, particularly in promoting Irish works in America.
