Born on November 22, 1900, in Brookline, Massachusetts, her parents were Polish musicians Jozef Adamowski and Antonina Szumanowska. Helenka was the only female student of the famous pianist Ignacy Jan Paderewski. She was the paternal grandmother of actress Téa Leoni and had two great-grandchildren, Kyd Miller Duchovny and West Duchovny.
