Henry Harley Arnold was born on June 25, 1886, in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. He was married to Eleanor Alexander Pool, and together they had five children. Arnold graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1907 and became a notable military figure in aviation.
Death and Legacy
Henry H. Arnold passed away on January 15, 1950, in Sonoma, California, due to heart failure. He was the Chief of the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1946 and remains the only U.S. Air Force officer to have held the five-star rank. Arnold’s contributions to military aviation are recognized, and he was featured on a U.S. postage stamp in 1988.
