Herb Tanney was an American actor best known for his roles in “The Pink Panther” series, “Victor/Victoria,” and “The Man Who Loved Women.” He was also a physician, combining a successful career in medicine with acting.

Herb Tanney was born on November 28, 1930, in Orange, New Jersey. He attended Stuyvesant High School and later studied at the University of Michigan and UCLA, eventually earning an M.D. from the University of Buffalo Medical School. He was married to Donna Rae Tanney from January 28, 1978, until his death in 2011, and they had two children together.

Career

Tanney began his medical career in Internal Medicine and later specialized in Endocrinology. He started practicing in Beverly Hills in 1962, where he treated many celebrities, including Blake Edwards and Julie Andrews. His film debut came with “Darling Lili,” and he frequently appeared in Blake Edwards’ films, often using the screen name ‘Sascha Tanney’ with a first name starting with ‘S’.

Death and Legacy

Herb Tanney passed away on June 28, 2011, in San Diego, California, due to congestive heart failure. He left behind a legacy of both medical practice and memorable performances in film, earning him a unique place in both fields.
