Hermann Thimig was born on October 3, 1890, in Vienna, Austria-Hungary. He was the son of an actor and the manager of the Burgtheater, Hugo Thimig, and had a sister and brother who were also actors. Thimig was married twice; first to Hanna Wisser from 1919 until their divorce in 1929, with whom he had one child, and later to Vilma Degischer in 1939, with whom he had two children and remained until his passing.
Career
He began his acting career on stage in 1910 at the Hoftheater Meiningen. Thimig appeared frequently in silent films alongside popular actresses like Henny Porten and Ossi Oswalda. With the introduction of sound in films, he shifted towards musical comedy and operettas, often collaborating with star Renate Mueller. Thimig was a member of the Vienna Burgtheater ensemble from 1934 to 1968.
