Howard Morrison was a New Zealand actor who is best known for his roles in Hawaii Five-O, Funny Things Happen Down Under, and Don’t Let It Get You.
Personal and Family Life
Howard Morrison was born on August 18, 1935, in Rotorua, New Zealand. He was married to Rangiwhata Ann ‘Kuia’ Manahi from 1957 until his death in 2009. Together they had three children. Howard was also the uncle of actor Temuera Morrison. His father was a former All Black rugby player in the 1930s.
Career
Howard was a founding member of the Howard Morrison Quartet, formed in the mid-1950s, where he collaborated with his brother Laurie, cousin John, and guitarist Gerry Merito. The group later gained popularity with new members Wi Wharekura and Noel Kingi, thanks to Howard’s last-minute persuasion for them to join.
Death and Legacy
Howard Morrison passed away on September 24, 2009, from a heart attack in Rotorua, New Zealand. His contributions to New Zealand entertainment and music have been recognized through numerous awards, including being made an OBE in 1976 and knighted in 1990. His legacy as a performer and entertainer continues to be celebrated in New Zealand.
