Ike Jones

Ike Jones was an American actor, producer, and screenwriter best known for his work in “A Man Called Adam,” “A Woman Called Moses,” and various TV series. He holds the distinction of being the first African American to graduate from UCLA’s film school.

Born Isaac Lolette Jones on December 23, 1929, in Santa Monica, California, Ike Jones married actress Inger Stevens in 1961, but their marriage was kept secret due to concerns about public disapproval of interracial marriages at that time. Their relationship faced challenges, and they were estranged by the time of Stevens’ tragic death in 1970.

Ike Jones made history as the first African American to produce a major Hollywood movie with “A Man Called Adam” in 1966. Before that, he had a brief acting career, appearing in films and TV shows, and also worked behind the scenes as a producer and executive. He produced the TV movie “A Woman Called Moses,” which featured Cicely Tyson, and remained active in the film industry throughout his life.
