Iris Stuart was born to Thomas and Mary McCann, both of whom were of Irish descent. She attended high school and briefly pursued secretarial studies before leaving to become an artist’s model. In 1928, she secretly married Bert A. Mackinnon, a publisher known for his work with the New Yorker Magazine, in Las Vegas.
Career
Iris began her acting career when she signed with Paramount Pictures in 1926 after previously working as a model. Her film debut was in “Stranded in Paris,” and she later appeared alongside Clara Bow in “Children of Divorce.” In 1927, she was recognized as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars, recognizing her potential in the film industry. Sadly, her health deteriorated due to tuberculosis, which greatly affected her acting career.
Death and Legacy
Iris Stuart’s struggle with tuberculosis continued until it ultimately led to her untimely death on December 21, 1936, at the age of thirty-three. She was buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. Despite her short career, she left a lasting impression as an actress and model of her time.
