J.D. Sumner

J.D. Sumner was an American actor who is best known for Smoky River Serenade, The Johnny Cash Show, and Range Beyond the Blue. Born on November 19, 1924, in Lakeland, Florida, he had a significant impact on the music scene, particularly in gospel.

J.D. Sumner was born as John Daniel Sumner and stood tall at 6 feet 5 inches. He was known for his very deep bass voice, which contributed to his success in music and acting. Sumner played an important role as a bass singer for the Stamps Quartet and sang backup for Elvis Presley for many years. He also served as the president of the Southern Gospel Music Association.

Death and Legacy

J.D. Sumner passed away on November 15, 1998, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His contributions to gospel music were significant, especially in the formation of the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
