Jack Lawson Edwards was born on June 2, 1919, in Florida, where his family was touring for performances. He was the son of stage actor Jack Edwards Sr. and actress Edna Park. Jack had two siblings, including brother Sam Edwards, who was also an actor. Throughout his life, he was also known by names such as Jack Edwards Jr. or Sonny Edwards to avoid confusion with his father.

Career

Edwards started his career in entertainment very early, joining his family’s stage show as a child. He gained popularity on radio with shows like “The Adventures of Sonny and Buddy” and “The Edwards Family.” Later, he transitioned to film and television, becoming known for his voice work, such as taking over the role of Speedy Gonzales when Mel Blanc fell ill in 1961. Despite some noted performances, he never became a household name and worked as a real estate salesman in his later years.

Death and Legacy

Jack Edwards passed away on September 5, 2008, in Sahuarita, Arizona. He left behind a legacy of work in various media, though he remained lesser-known compared to some of his contemporaries. His widow, Jane Webb, who also had a background in radio and cartoons, died two years later.
