James Hampton

Born on July 9, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, James Hampton grew up in Dallas, Texas. He attended several schools including John H. Reagan Elementary and the University of North Texas, where he studied theater. He was married to Carole Simpson from 1964 until their divorce in 1994 and then married Mary Deese in 2002 until his death.

Hampton’s acting career began in theater, performing in productions and summer stock before moving to television and film. He became widely recognized for his comedic role as Private Hannibal Dobbs in the classic sitcom F Troop.
