Jane Arden was born in Wales in 1927 and moved to London as a teenager. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and quickly established herself as both an actress and playwright. She married Philip Saville, with whom she had two sons, Sebastian and Dominic, as well as a stepdaughter, Elizabeth. Arden was also the mother-in-law of Tracy Granger.
