Janis Carter was born on October 10, 1913, in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Mather College with degrees in arts and music in 1935. Janis married Carl Prager in 1942, but they divorced in 1951. Later, in December 1956, she married Julius Stulman, with whom she remained until her death.
Career
After moving to New York, Janis initially aimed for a career in opera. However, she found success on Broadway, performing in musicals like “I Married An Angel” and “Panama Hattie.” In 1941, she signed a contract with 20th Century-Fox and appeared in over 30 films during her 12 years in Hollywood. After leaving Hollywood, she transitioned to television, featuring in various shows and hosting the quiz program “Feather Your Nest.”
Death and Legacy
Janis Carter passed away on July 30, 1994, due to a heart attack in Durham, North Carolina. She left behind a rich legacy in both film and television, remembered for her versatility and charm as an actress. Following her retirement, Janis devoted her time to local cultural activities, particularly in Sarasota, Florida.
