Born Peter Jeremy William Huggins on November 3, 1933, in Warwickshire, England, Brett came from a privileged background. He was educated at Eton College and later trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Brett was married twice: to Anna Massey from 1958 to 1962, with whom he had one child, and to Joan Wilson from 1976 until her death in 1985.
