Jerry Russell was born on January 5, 1936, in West Warwick, Rhode Island. He had a diverse family background, with a father who was a French-Canadian immigrant and a mother of British descent. Throughout his life, he was married three times, including his marriage to Suzi McLaughlin, who he was with until his death. He also had children from his previous marriages, including a daughter, Wendy Davis, who would become a Texas senator.
