John Eldredge

John Eldredge was an American actor who is best known for High Sierra, Backlash, and The Master Key. Born on August 30, 1904, in San Francisco, California, he made significant contributions to film and television until his death on September 23, 1961.

Personal and Family Life

John Eldredge was married twice, first to Eleanor Catherine Walker from 1946 until their divorce in 1952, and later to Frances Virginia Kathleen Hubbell from 1953 until his death in 1961. He had two children, Robin Kathleen Reynolds and Robert David Reynolds. He was the son of a clergyman, which influenced his early life, and he had a younger brother named George Eldredge, who was also an actor.

Career

Eldredge began his acting career in stock companies and vaudeville before moving on to Broadway. In 1934, he signed with Warner Brothers as a general-purpose actor, often appearing in minor roles. He became a familiar face on television in the 1950s, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

Death and Legacy

John Eldredge passed away from a heart attack on September 23, 1961, in Laguna Beach, California. Despite often being cast in small roles, his contributions to the film and television industry have not been forgotten. He is honored as a member of the Screen Actors Guild since late 1935 and is sometimes mistakenly referred to as John Eldridge, which should not be confused with the British director of the same name.
