He was married twice, first to Anne Tyson, with whom he had a daughter named Rollin Tyson Lupton, and later to Dian Lee Friml, who was related to the composer Rudolf Friml.

Lupton’s career started on Broadway with roles in productions like Diamond Lil. He later transitioned to film and TV, with a notable part in Battle Cry.
