Joseph Buloff was born on January 20, 1899, in Vilna, Russian Empire (now Vilnius, Lithuania). He married Luba Kadison in 1923, and they had one daughter, Barbara. Luba was a Yiddish actress who performed in many productions, having met Joseph when their theatre troupe was in Poland. They emigrated to the United States in the late 1920s, joining the Yiddish Art Theater in New York.
Career
Buloff was a leading actor with the Vilna Troupe and became well-known in the U.S. with Maurice Schwartz’s Yiddish Art Theater. Before 1936, he appeared in over 225 Yiddish plays, marking a significant presence in the theatre community. His Broadway debut came in the mid-1930s, solidifying his status as a talented actor.
Death and Legacy
Joseph Buloff passed away on February 27, 1985, in New York City, New York. He had a rich career in acting, particularly in Yiddish theatre, and is remembered for his contributions to this cultural art form. His wife, Luba, died in 2006, as confirmed by their daughter.
