June Preston

June Preston was an American actor who is best known for her roles as Mrs. Blewett’s Daughter in “Anne of Green Gables,” Little Blond Girl Singing and Dancing in “You Can’t Cheat an Honest Man,” and her remarkable career as an opera singer.

Born on December 29, 1928, in Glendale, California, June Preston began her career in Hollywood at a very young age. She was married to Belgian concert violinist Saul Hoüben from 1963 until his passing in 1982, and they had one child together. June was recognized for her beauty and talent, often described as “one of the most beautiful children ever seen in films.”

Career

June’s early career started when she was discovered at a film studio and signed a long-term contract with RKO Film Studios. She starred in several films throughout the 1930s and 1940s, gaining significant popularity while also engaging in various merchandising ventures, which included the “June Preston Frock” clothing line. After her film career, she became a renowned opera singer and toured internationally, performing in prestigious opera houses.

Death and Legacy

June Preston passed away on May 11, 2022, at the age of 93 due to complications from dementia. She left behind a rich legacy in both film and opera and is remembered by her family, including her daughter and sister. Preston was inducted into the WSHS Hall of Fame for her contributions to the arts in 1989.
