Karl Slover was born on September 21, 1918, in Prakfalva, Austria-Hungary, and he was the only dwarf in his family. At the age of nine, his father sold him to a vaudeville troupe in Berlin, which began his career in show business. He became a well-known figure in the entertainment industry and adopted the name Slover from his manager after joining the Royal American Carnival.
