Kathy Casamo, born Cathryn Marie Casamo on December 22, 1938, was the eldest of four children in a Sicilian family from New Jersey. She studied Drama at Northwestern University but left before graduating to pursue a career in California. Kathy had a daughter named Caitlyn and lived in unique housing, including houseboats in Sausalito, where she eventually met actor Larry Hankin.
Career and Influences
In 1964, her life took a turn when she became involved with the Merry Pranksters and filmmaker Mike Hagen. She joined a cross-country trip in their psychedelic bus, which marked a significant time in her life despite some difficult experiences. Known as “Stark Naked,” she became part of the counterculture scene and fostered friendships with influential figures like Ken Kesey.
Death and Legacy
Kathy Casamo lived a quieter life in later years, having been married and divorced twice, and being a mother to a son named Holden. She maintained a drug-free and health-conscious lifestyle until her battle with cancer. Kathy passed away on December 12, 1992, died in the arms of her boyfriend, and her ashes were scattered in Marin County, reflecting her wishes.
