Kien Shih

Kien Shih was an American actor known for his roles in “Enter the Dragon,” “Rivals of Kung Fu,” and “Na Zha nao dong hai.” He was born on January 1, 1913, in Shígang Village, Panyu, Guangdong, China, and passed away on June 3, 2009, in Hong Kong, China.

Personal and Family Life

Kien Shih, originally named Wing-Cheung Shek, began his film career in 1939 as a makeup artist in Hong Kong. He was skilled in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and appeared in many films, especially in the original “Wong Fei Hung” series from 1949 to 1970. Although he had a significant career, he did not speak English, and his dialogue was often dubbed by the Chinese-American actor, Keye Luke.

Death and Legacy

Kien Shih died on June 3, 2009, due to kidney failure in Hong Kong. His contributions to the film industry are remembered, particularly for his extensive work in martial arts cinema. Shih is celebrated not only for his acting but also for his skills in kung fu, influencing many aspiring martial artists and actors.
