Larry Haines was born as Larry Hecht on August 3, 1918, in Mount Vernon, New York. He was married twice; first to Gertrude “Trudy” Haines from 1943 until her death in 1982, and then to Jean Pearlman Haines in 1983 until her death. Haines had one child, a daughter named Deborah Dorothy Haines.

Haines was a notable voice actor in the 1930s, working on the radio series “Gangbusters” which focused on real crime stories. He also starred in “CBS Radio Mystery Theater” from 1974 to 1982 in 82 episodes. His stage accomplishments earned him two Tony Award nominations, and he won Daytime Emmys for his work on “Search for Tomorrow” in 1976 and 1981.
