Lawrence Grant

Percy Reginald Lawrence-Grant, known as Lawrence Grant, was an American actor most famous for his roles in Shanghai Express, Son of Frankenstein, and Little Lord Fauntleroy.

Personal and Family Life

Lawrence Grant was born on October 30, 1870, in Bournemouth, England. He came to America in 1908 and soon established himself as a successful character actor. Throughout his life, he was married four times but had no children. At the time of his death, he had four nieces living in England, who were his only remaining family.

Cultural Interests

From a young age, Grant admired Native American culture and spent time learning about their history. He lived with various Native American tribes in Wyoming and Montana, recording his experiences using an early film process called Kinemacolor. He later used this footage in a lecture tour he named “Travels with Kinemacolor.”

Death and Legacy

Grant passed away on February 19, 1952, in Santa Barbara, California, at the age of 81. His health had declined after performing during a hot summer, and he left a legacy as a competent character actor in early Hollywood. Though he had celebrated a long career, he is remembered for his contributions to film and culture.
