Lloyd Avery II was of African-American and Mexican descent and had an older brother, Ché J. Avery, who is also an actor. At the time of his death, he was serving a life sentence for a double murder at Pelican Bay Prison.

Lloyd passed away on September 4, 2005, in Crescent City, California. His body was discovered two days after his death in his cell, with his cellmate being the main suspect in the case. Despite his tragic end, he is remembered for his roles in notable films.
