Lord Beaverbrook was born William Maxwell Aitken on May 25, 1879, in Maple, Ontario, Canada. He was married twice; first to Gladys Henderson Drury from 1906 until her death in 1927, and then to Marcia Anastasia Christoforides from 1963 until his death in 1964. He had three children with Drury, including his son John William Maxwell Aitken, who became the 2nd Baron Beaverbrook. He also had a notable lineage, being the uncle of Conservative MP Sir William Aitken and the great-granduncle of actor Jack Davenport.

Lord Beaverbrook passed away on June 9, 1964, in Mickleham, Surrey, England, due to bladder cancer.
