She grew up in California, where she attended Los Angeles High School and St. Mary’s Convent, before working various jobs until she was discovered by a talent agent. She married Warner Bros. producer Hal B. Wallis on November 24, 1927, and they had one son, Brent, who became a psychiatrist.
