Luli Deste was born on November 7, 1902, in Heidelberg, Germany, as Julie “Luli” Dorothea von Bodenhausen. She was the daughter of Baron Eberhard von Bodenhausen, who previously directed the Krupp steel works. Known for her aristocratic background, Deste had blue eyes and was recognized for her talents as an actress, dancer, and singer.

Career

Luli made her film debut in Britain opposite Edward G. Robinson in the movie Thunder in the City in 1937. After moving to Hollywood with her three Afghan hounds, she struggled to find significant roles and decided to quit acting in 1941. Besides her film work, she was also a stage actress and an author.

Death and Legacy
