Mable John made history as the first female vocalist signed by Berry Gordy’s Motown’s Tamla label. She left Motown in 1963 to manage her own record company, working with Four Brothers and Bright Star. In addition to her own singing career, she collaborated with groups like Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and The Supremes as a background singer.
