Mable Lee

Mable Lee was an American actress who is best known for her performances in various Soundies, Broadway shows, and her contribution to dance. Born on August 2, 1921, in Atlanta, Georgia, she showcased her talent in entertainment from a young age, continuing her passion well into her later years.

Personal and Family Life

Mable Lee began dancing at the age of three and was performing publicly by four. By the age of twelve, she was already dancing in nightclubs in Atlanta. At nineteen, she moved to New York City to pursue her career, quickly gaining roles in dance performances.

Career

Mable Lee made a significant impact on the dance and music scene during her career. She performed at the Apollo Theater and was part of comedy skits with notable comedians. After serving in USO shows during World War II, she transitioned to film and appeared in numerous Soundies until around 1946. Her later work included starring in the Broadway revival of “Shuffle Along” in 1952 and touring with “Bubblin’ Brown Sugar” in 1976.

Death and Legacy

Mable Lee passed away on February 7, 2019, in New York City. She was recognized for her extensive contributions to dance and was inducted into the American Tap Dance Association Hall of Fame in 2008, solidifying her legacy as a talented performer in American entertainment.
