Madge Blake

Madge Blake was an American actress who is best known for her role as Aunt Harriet Cooper in the television series Batman, along with her performances in The Prowler and I Love Lucy.

Madge Blake was born on May 31, 1899, in Kinsley, Kansas. She married James Lincoln Blake, and they had one child. Before her acting career, she and her husband worked on secret government projects during World War II, contributing to the construction of the detonator for the atomic bomb.

Acting Career

At the age of 50, after her government job, Madge pursued her passion for acting by enrolling at the Pasadena Playhouse. She enjoyed a successful two-decade-long career in film and television, featuring in various notable roles. Contrary to some beliefs, her character Aunt Harriet Cooper was not created for the TV show and had appeared in comic books before.

Death and Legacy

Madge Blake passed away on February 19, 1969, in Pasadena, California, due to cardiac arrest. She left behind a legacy of diverse performances that contributed significantly to early television and film. Her role in Batman remains one of her most enduring legacies.
