Mae Busch was born Annie May Busch on June 18, 1891, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She moved to the United States with her family in 1897, where her parents were involved in the theater. She had three marriages but did not have any children. Her niece was Brenda Scott.
Career
Busch began her career in vaudeville with the Busch Devere Trio before transitioning to Broadway. In Hollywood, she started working with Mack Sennett’s Keystone Pictures in 1915. Despite a rocky beginning, she became known as “The Versatile Vamp” and is remembered for her comedic roles alongside famous stars like Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.
Death and Legacy
Mae Busch passed away on April 19, 1946, in San Fernando Valley, California, due to pneumonia at the age of 54. After her death, her ashes were left unclaimed for many years before they were finally interred. Her contributions to film and her memorable performances continue to be celebrated, especially in the comedy genre.
