Mahlon Hamilton was born on June 15, 1880, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was married to Alita Bratton Farnum from 1918 until their divorce in 1925. He also married Sara L. Leary, with whom he had one child, Mahlon Preston Hamilton (1904-1987). Before becoming an actor, he served in the Maryland National Guard and studied at Maryland Agricultural College.
