Margaux Hemingway was an American actress best known for her roles in “Lipstick,” “Inner Sanctum,” and “Killer Fish.” She was part of the famous Hemingway family, being the granddaughter of renowned author Ernest Hemingway.
Personal and Family Life
Born on February 16, 1954, in Portland, Oregon, Margaux grew up on a farm in Ketchum, Idaho. Her father, Jack Hemingway, was the son of Ernest Hemingway. Margaux had a complicated personal life, experiencing two failed marriages and struggles with alcohol. She checked into the Betty Ford Center for rehabilitation in 1988, but her attempts to revive her acting career were unsuccessful.
Death and Legacy
Margaux Hemingway passed away on July 1, 1996, in her Santa Monica apartment. Though her death was ruled a suicide by overdose, her sister Mariel and others contested this conclusion, speculating that she might have died from an epileptic seizure instead. Her death marked a tragic continuation of the Hemingway family’s history with mental health issues, as she was the fifth family member to take their own life.
