Marguerite De La Motte was an American actress best known for her roles in “The Mark of Zorro,” “The Three Musketeers,” and “The Iron Mask.”
Personal and Family Life
Marguerite De La Motte was born on June 22, 1902, in Duluth, Minnesota. Tragically, when she was just 16, her parents died in a car accident, and she became the guardian of her younger brother under producer J.L. Frothingham. Throughout her life, she experienced significant personal losses, including the suicide of her first husband, John Bowers, in 1936.
Career
Trained as a dancer, Marguerite was reputedly taught by the famous ballerina Anna Pavlova. She began her film career in 1918 and gained fame through her performances alongside Douglas Fairbanks in silent films. However, as sound films emerged, her career declined, leading her to take on smaller roles in less significant productions.
Death and Legacy
Marguerite De La Motte passed away on March 10, 1950, in San Francisco, California, due to cerebral thrombosis. She was buried at Olivet Memorial Park in Colma, California. Marguerite is remembered for her role in early cinema and her contributions to the silent film era.
