Personal and Family Life
María Eugenia Ríos Romero was born on August 4, 1935, in Mexico City, the daughter of Roberto Ríos. Her father initially opposed her acting aspirations but eventually agreed on the condition that she also became a bilingual executive secretary. She studied acting at the Academy of Andrés Soler, where she met actor Óscar Morelli. They married on June 2, 1958, and had four children: Gustavo, María Eugenia, Óscar Bonfiglio, and Andrés Bonfiglio.
Career
Ríos began her acting career in theater and debuted at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. She made her film debut in 1956 and appeared in several popular telenovelas throughout the 1960s. Her notable works include Chucho el Roto and the film Missing, where she acted alongside Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek. Ríos also supported various humanitarian causes, founding several organizations to help children and women.
Death and Legacy
María Eugenia Ríos Romero retired from acting in 2005 following the death of her husband. She briefly returned to the stage in 2014 for a tribute performance of Madame Curie. Ríos passed away on August 1, 2024, at the age of 88. She is remembered for her contributions to Mexican cinema and television, as well as her philanthropic efforts.
