Maurice Colbourne was born Roger Middleton on September 24, 1939, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He was married to Chan Lian Si and had a daughter named Clara, born in 1980. Before pursuing acting, he worked various jobs, including as a fairground roustabout and ghost train operator. He eventually trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, which led to a successful acting career.

Maurice Colbourne’s acting career began in repertory theatre, where he took on a wide variety of roles. He gained recognition in the 1970s with his performance in the series Gangsters and appeared in popular shows like The Onedin Line.
