Miles Malleson was born on May 25, 1888, in Croydon, Surrey, to parents Edmund Taylor Malleson and Myrrha Bithynia Frances Borrell. He was educated at Brighton College and Emmanuel College in Cambridge. Malleson was married three times: first to Colette O’Neil, then to Joan Graeme Billson, with whom he had two children, and finally to Tania Lieven, who he remained with until his death.

Career

Initially intending to be a schoolmaster, Malleson transitioned to theater, performing in repertory theater before attending RADA. He started writing plays in 1913, focusing on socially relevant themes. During the 1930s and 1940s, he gained prominence as both an actor and a screenwriter, contributing to historical films and taking on quirky character roles in numerous British films.

Death and Legacy

Miles Malleson passed away on March 15, 1969, in Westminster, London, following surgery for cataracts.
