Milton Cross was an American actor who is best known for his role as an announcer for the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts, as well as appearances in “Fifty Years Before Your Eyes,” “All Star Revue,” and “Gaslight Follies.”

Milton Cross was born on April 16, 1897, in New York City. He married Lillian Cross, and they had one child, a daughter who sadly died in infancy. Lillian passed away in March 1973, and Milton missed only two broadcasts during his 43 years with the Metropolitan Opera, one being shortly after her death.
Death and Legacy
Milton Cross died on January 3, 1975, from a heart attack in New York City. He was known as the “Voice of the Metropolitan Family” and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to radio. His books on music, including “Milton Cross’ Stories of the Great Operas,” remain a testament to his legacy.
