Moffat Johnston

Moffat Johnston was an American actor known for his roles in “Midnight,” “Richard III,” and other productions. He was born on August 18, 1886, in Edinburgh, Scotland, and passed away on November 3, 1935.

Moffat was married to Winifred Durie Hodgson, with whom he had two children. He was an accomplished Shakespearean actor and had performances across Europe and America. His wife was also a student of the renowned Sir Francis Robert Benson.

Career

Johnston made his first stage appearance in Manchester in 1905 as a young Shakespearean performer. He spent 18 months in the hospital due to wounds from World War I but returned to the stage afterward. In 1924, he debuted on the American stage with Henry Jewett’s repertory troupe in Boston. He also taught at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
