Lister was married to Jacques de Gachassin-Lafite, Vicomte d’Orthez, from 1951 until his death in 1989, and they had two children together. Interestingly, she was once friends with the notorious murderer Neville Heath, unknowingly spending time with him shortly after he had committed a violent crime, which she credited her blonde hair for saving her life.
