Mona Baptiste

Mona Baptiste was an American artist born on June 21, 1928, in Port of Spain, Trinidad. She is best known for her roles in “Symphonie in Gold,” “Tanz in der Sonne,” and “Mädchen für die Mambo-Bar.” Baptiste enjoyed a successful music career, particularly in the jazz scene.

Personal and Family Life

Mona Baptiste was one of five sisters and emigrated to London in 1948 on the MV Empire Windrush. Initially presenting herself as a clerk to immigration, she quickly pursued her dream of becoming a singer. She was married twice, first to Michael Carle, with whom she had one child, and later to Liam Morrison until her death.

Death and Legacy

Mona Baptiste passed away from natural causes on June 25, 1993, in Krefeld, Germany, at the age of 65. She had spent many years living in Dublin, Ireland, with her second husband, Liam Morrison. Baptiste is remembered for her contributions to music and film, including her unique interpretations of jazz and calypso.
