N.T. Rama Rao was an Indian actor who is best known for his roles in films like Adavi Ramudu, Mayabazar, and Sardar Papa Rayudu. He was a prominent figure in the Telugu film industry and also ventured into politics.

Personal and Family Life

N.T. Rama Rao, born Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, was raised in a farming family in Nimmakuru, Andhra Pradesh. He earned a bachelor’s degree in arts and initially worked for the government. He was first married to Basavatarakam Nandamuri, with whom he had 11 children. Later, he married Lakshmi Parvathi in 1993.

Career Highlights

Rama Rao started his film career in 1949 with “Mana Desam” and quickly rose to fame as a hero with the successful film “Palletoori Pilla” in 1950. He became the first superstar of Telugu cinema and starred in various mythological and commercially successful films throughout his career, such as “Mayabazar” and “Bobbili Puli”. In addition to acting, he also directed and produced films, and he founded the Telugu Desam party in 1982, later serving as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Death and Legacy

N.T. Rama Rao passed away on January 18, 1996, due to a heart attack in Hyderabad. His legacy lives on through his films and his children, particularly his son Nandamuri Balakrishna, who is also a well-known actor. He is remembered for his contributions to the film industry and for advocating Telugu pride through his political career.
