Nancy Wake’s family relocated to Australia when she was just two years old, and she spent her formative years in Sydney. She began her career as a journalist but soon found herself in Europe. In 1939, she married French businessman Henri Fiocca, who was tragically killed during World War II.

Career

During World War II, Nancy earned a reputation as a formidable member of the French Resistance, famously nicknamed “The White Mouse.” She was highly sought after by the Gestapo and was known for her bravery. After being arrested and subsequently escaping, she became a British special agent and played a crucial role in the resistance efforts before D-Day by parachuting into France.

Death and Legacy

Nancy Wake died on August 7, 2011, due to complications from a chest infection. She was honored with several accolades, including the George Medal for her wartime efforts and was made a Companion of the Order of Australia. Her ashes are to be spread in Montlucon, France, a place significant to her heroic actions during the war.
