Born Ferdinando Orfei on July 29, 1934, in Portomaggiore, Italy, he came from a family of performers. He married Anita Gambarutti in 1963, and they had three children together: Paride, Gioia, and Ambra. Nando was also the brother of Rinaldo and Liana Orfei, and his cousin was the famous Moira Orfei.
