Nino Castelnuovo was born on October 28, 1936, in Lecco, Lombardy, Italy. He was the second of four brothers in a humble family. He was married to Maria Cristina Di Nicola from 2010 until his death in 2021, and he previously had a child with his ex-wife Danila Trebbi. Castelnuovo had one son named Lorenzo and several siblings, including Pierantonio, Clemente, and Marinella.

Career

Nino began his career with various jobs before pursuing acting, taking drama classes at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan. His film debut came in 1959, and he became well-known for his role as Guy Foucher in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), although his singing was dubbed. He later gained popularity playing Renzo Tramaglino in the mini-series I promessi sposi (1967) and appeared in many Italian and American films, notably switching to stage and television performances by the early 1970s. His last role was in The English Patient (1996), before he retired in 2016.
